The Director of Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences announces the competition for the position of the Associate Professor (f/m/x) and Head of the Tumor Microenvironment Laboratory to operationalize statutory tasks, conduct research projects and implement one’s vision of scientific development of the Laboratory.
Current research program of the Tumor Microenvironment Laboratory:
The Tumor Microenvironment Laboratory investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern interactions between cancer cells and their microenvironment, with a particular focus on glioblastoma and other solid tumors. The laboratory’s research interests include tumor heterogeneity, intercellular communication, the role of extracellular vesicles, and stress- and hypoxia-related mechanisms that shape tumor progression and treatment response.
The laboratory develops modern therapeutic and translational strategies, including approaches based on immunotherapy, oncolytic viruses, and advanced 3D, organoid, and in vivo models. Research is carried out using state-of-the-art molecular biology methods and integrated multi-omics analyses, including single-cell transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, and immunopeptidomics. The overall goal of the laboratory is to advance the understanding of tumor biology and to identify biologically grounded therapeutic strategies with translational potential.
Description of activities:
- managing the team and supervising the tasks performed by team members,
- forming the composition of the research team,
- proposing and implementing your own research topics within the scope of the team's interests, using modern methodology,
- introducing new research techniques to raise the standard of scientific research,
- publishing the results of scientific research,
- obtaining external funding for research projects,
- active participation in the scientific activities of the MMRI PAS and scientific community.
The necessary qualification requirements for the Head of the Department position:
- minimum of a PhD degree in biological, medical or related sciences
- confirmed effectiveness in obtaining external funding for scientific research, proven track record in securing research funding
- previous independent management of a research project financed from non-institutional funds or management of a research team
- ability to propose one's own research topics using modern methodology
- substantive experience in the field of cancer biology and the tumor microenvironment, with demonstrated experience in designing and conducting in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo studies, analysis of human and animal specimens, and the application of advanced molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics, statistic and multi-omics approaches
- the multidisciplinary nature of the research conducted and research interests
- the ability to flexibly modify the research profile in response to social demand
- scientific achievements documented by international scientific publications – including as first author and/or corresponding author
- experience in planning department’s publication strategy
- documented active participation in domestic and international conferences and symposia
- experience in popularising science
- proficiency in English
Additional requirements (desirable):
- experience in omics data analysis and in developing interactive tools for data visualization
- ability to work in a team
- experience in working in an environment focused on the practical implementation of scientific research results
- experience in providing substantive support to students and junior academic staff
- scientific cooperation with other centres conducting scientific research
Requirements for the position of Associate Professor:
- habilitated doctor’s degree or title of professor, in the case of a person permanently residing abroad - at least a doctoral degree, in biological, medical or related sciences
- at least 1 original article published after habilitation in scientific journals indexed in JCR, including at least one of which the candidate is the first author, the first equal author or a corresponding author
- documented experience in obtaining funds
- previous management of a research team or research project funded by external sources
