We are looking for candidates to join the Pathfinder research project funded by the European Innovation Council (Grant No. 101130715), titled: " Bottom-up manufacturing of artificial anti-tumor T cells (ArTCell)”. The project is conducted by an international consortium including KU Leuven, Belgium (project leader), Toscana Life Sciences Foundation, Siena, Italy, Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz, Germany, and the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw (IMDiK PAN). The research will be carried out at the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Department of Immunology, under the supervision of Dr. Małgorzata Firczuk, project leader at IMDiK PAN.
Tasks description
The project aims to develop synthetic replacements for T cells (ArTCell – artificial T cells), which mimic the function of natural T cells in fighting cancer. The goal is to create a safer, more efficient, and cost-effective alternative to current CAR-T (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cell) therapies. ArTCells will be constructed from GUVs (Giant Unilamellar Vesicles) equipped with proteins enabling the recognition of cancer cells via CAR receptors and adhesion molecules, and capable of destroying them using proteins that induce tumor cell death. The research conducted at IMDiK PAN will focus on analyzing the biodistribution of ArTCells in mouse models and evaluating their anti-tumor efficacy in in vitro and in vivo tests.
