The current research program of the Department of Neurotoxicology:
● cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for the pathogenesis of neurological diseases (hepatic encephalopathy, inborn hyperammonemia, epilepsy, anxiety disorders);
● molecular basis of molecular basis of the studied diseases;
● glutamine and its function in the pathology of the studied diseases;
● identification of neurotoxic factors (including ammonia, bile acids) and neurotransmission disorders
in the regulation of pathological processes;
● searching for novel biomarkers
● search for new drugs.
The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:
● study of glutamine synthetase distribution and its regulatory activity mechanisms and glutamine metabolism enzymes in in vivo and in vitro models;
● behavioral and neuropathological studies of disease models under glutamine synthetase deficiency;
● studying integrated mechanisms of intercellular and metabolic signaling;
● identification of biomarkers and searching for new pharmacological agents in the therapy of metabolic diseases and cholestasis.
Description of job position activities:
● developing and implementing experimental models of generated disease models, conducting research, and collecting biological material;
● study of cellular processes, identification of potential therapeutic potential in the selected CNS disorders (culturing primary cells and cell lines);
● performing molecular, biochemical, chemical, microscopic, and histological experiments with the advanced techniques;
● implementing new research technologies and methods to improve the quality of scientific research;
● active acquisition of research funding by preparation of grant applications in accordance with competition rules;
● active participation in the implementation of research projects, following the requirements of the financing institution;
● preparing reports on conducted research;
● analyzing, developing, and presenting the obtained data;
● preparation of conference presentations, and representing the Institute at scientific conferences;
● preparation of manuscripts and their publication;
● active participation in seminars, courses, and trainings;
● active participation in the scientific activities of the Department, the Institute, and the scientific community.
Requirements for the Assistant position:
● having a master's degree (or equivalent) in the field of medical, biological or related sciences;
● experience (minimum 3 years) in laboratory work (molecular biology, biochemistry, visible light and confocal microscopy, histology, fluorimetric/spectrophotometric measurements, enzymatic analyses, enzyme activity measurements) and experience in cell culture and animal models (valid permission required);
● documented scientific activity (e.g., in the form of published materials, presentations, reports, abstracts, certificates, or official statements);
● experience with bibliographic database management software;
● knowledge of statistical methods used in science;
● interest and predisposition to scientific work, availability and teamwork skills;
● good organizational skills and openness to new challenges;
● fluency in English, both spoken and written;
● indication of Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences as the first place
of employment.
Additional requirements (desirable) for the Assistant position:
● authorship/co-authorship of scientific publications in neurobiology;
● experience in applying for grant projects;
● documented participation in scientific conferences;
● ability to analyze and present acquired results;
● ability to work in a team, design, organize, and conduct scientific research;
● knowledge of maintaining and establishing primary cell cultures;
● knowledge of breeding genetically modified animals;
● practical knowledge of mouse and/or rat brain anatomy;
● knowledge of microsurgical techniques;
● knowledge of microphotographic analysis and processing software.
Requirements for the Assistant professor position:
● at least a Ph.D. degree in medical, biological or related sciences;
● at least 2 original articles in scientific journals indexed in JCR including at least one of which the candidate is the first author, the first equal author or a corresponding author, published after obtaining the Ph.D. degree, but not containing the results of the Ph.D. thesis;
● experience (minimum 5 years) in laboratory work (molecular biology, biochemistry, visible light and confocal microscopy, histology, fluorimetric/spectrophotometric measurements, enzymatic analyses) and experience in cell cultures (including primary cell cultures) and working with animal models (including knowledge of the principles of work and breeding of genetically modified animals; current valid permission is necessary);
● documented activity in applying for research funding (grant applications);
● documented active participation in national and international conferences and symposia;
● interest and predisposition to scientific work, availability;
● ability to analyze and present acquired results;
● ability to design, organize, and conduct scientific research and to propose research hypotheses;
● experience with bibliographic database management software;
● knowledge of statistical methods using in science;
● knowledge of microphotographic analysis and processing software;
● fluency in English, both spoken and written;
● indicating the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences as the first-place employer.
Additional requirements (desirable) for the Assistant professor position:
● practical knowledge of mouse and/or rat brain anatomy;
● experience in microscopic techniques;
● experience in electrophysiology;
● knowledge of microsurgery techniques;
