The current research program of the Department of Cellular Signaling.

The Department focuses on studying the molecular mechanisms responsible for the development of neurodegenerative diseases. We investigate the relationships between the accumulation of misfolded proteins in the brain, such as α-synuclein (α-syn) and amyloid β (Aβ), and the excessive activation of glial cells, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction.

The research is conducted in collaboration with numerous scientific institutions, both domestic and foreign. We utilize advanced research techniques and a variety of experimental models, ranging from single cells, organotypic in vitro cultures and animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, up to the analysis of patient-derived material.

The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:

  • Investigation of the molecular mechanisms of immune system activation in experimental models of Parkinson's disease.
  • Investigation the effects of pharmacological modulation of immunological system on neurodegeneration and behavioural disturbances in animals models of neurodegenerative disorders.


Description of job position activities:

  • Conducting scientific research using in vitro and in vivo models in accordance with the current research focus of the Department.
  • Introducing new research technologies to enhance the quality of scientific investigations.
  • Actively publishing research findings.
  • Preparing research proposals to secure funding.
  • Actively participating in the Department's scientific seminars.
  • Representing the Department at national and international scientific conferences.


Requirements for the position of assistant:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in the field of medical, biological or related sciences.
  • Ability to design, organize, and conduct scientific research and formulate research hypotheses.
  • Knowledge of biochemical and molecular biology methods.
  • Familiarity with microscopy techniques.
  • Independence and good work organization.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Indicating the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences as a first place of employment.


Additional requirements (preferred):

  • Experience in working with animals, e.g. performing intracerebral injections.
