Current research program of the Department of Stem Cell Bioengineering:
• Derivation of therapeutically competent stem cells: optimization of biomimetic culture conditions, „priming”, and biomimetic environment (three-dimensional culture, signaling molecules, and physiological normoxia);
• Preclinical studies of neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory potential of human stem cells;
• Derivation from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) brain organoids I in vitro models 3D of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases (schizophrenia, Dravet Syndrome, Parkinson Disease and Alzheimer Disease);
• Application of new methods of stem cell bioengineering (reporter lines, genome editing) and their niche (control of physicochemical properties of 3D scaffolds) to study the molecular mechanisms of early neural development.

The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:
• Research on the pathology of neurodevelopmental diseases;
• Research on the pathology of neurodegenerative diseases;
• Application of 2D and 3D models in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases.

Description of job position activities:
• active participation in the scientific activities of the Department, the Institute, and the scientific community,
• active acquisition of research funding by preparation of grant applications in accordance with competition rules,
• analysis of the obtained data,
• preparation of manuscripts and their publication,
• preparation of conference presentations, and representing the Institute at scientific conferences,
• active participation in seminars, courses, and training.

Obligatory requirements:
• at least a Ph.D. degree in medical, biological or related sciences,
• at least 2 original articles in scientific journals indexed in JCR, including at least one of which the candidate is the first author, the first equal author or a corresponding author, published after obtaining the Ph.D. degree, but not containing the results of the Ph.D. thesis,
• documented participation in the implementation of at least 3 research projects for which funding was independently obtained through competitions,
• experience in performing studies using 2D models (including neuroprogenitors and neurons) and 3D models (organoids and assembloids) obtained by hiPSC differentiation,
• experience in conducting research on neurodegenerative diseases,
• experience in molecular biology and biochemistry methods,
• documented active participation in national and international conferences and symposia,
• indicating the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences as the first-place employer,
• fluency in English, both spoken and written.

Additional requirements (desirable):
• experience in gene analysis by RNA sequencing,
• familiarity with genome editing using CRISPR-Cas9,
• experience in work with viruses and bacteria,
• experience in microscopic techniques,
• knowledge of statistical methods,
• creativity, readiness for new challenges, and ability to work in a team.

Formal and substantive assessments of the submitted documents and interview were conducted to verify candidate’s qualifications. As a result of the procedure, Magdalena Czeredys, PhD, was elected for the position of assistant professor in the Department of Stem Cell Bioengineering.
