New research equipment at MMRI PAS
The research infrastructure if our Institute has just been expanded with high-end equipment: Cellvizio® Dual Band System by Manua Kea Technologies for in vivo imaging in pre-clinical trials at cell resolution.
Cellvizio® System is a fluorescence-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) system, one of two devices of its type currently in use in Poland. The system allows for real-time imaging of tissues and cells by means on non- or minimally invasive methods.
The System combines confocal microscope and a flexible confocal microprobe to take advantage of both technological solutions. Highly-sensitive detectors enable surface imaging in contact with the tissue as well as internal imaging by inserting the detector into the soft tissue of interest. Confocal imaging, in turn, allows for imaging at cell resolution which is unavailable in other in vivo imaging systems (MRI, CT, PET, SPECT, Ultrasound, among others).
What is particularly valuable about real-time in vivo endomicroscopy is:
• the access to any place of interest to the experimenter during the whole imaging process
• opportunity to capture functional and morphological images both in animals that are awake after previous immobilization, and in the animal under inhalation anaesthesia (light anaesthesia)
• possibility of dynamic changes recording in vivo in the same animal over a longer period
Such features of the equipment allow for a wide range of research, including:
• vascularisation assessment: its density, morphology and functioning,
• dynamic recording of cellular and molecular interactions
• analysis of biodistribution of medication, endocrine and paracrine substances,
• monitoring of physiological and functional changes in the anatomical context
MMRI PAS Cellvizio® System is currently located at the Department of Renal and Body Fluid Physiology,
supervised by Prof. Elżbieta Kompanowska-Jezierska MD PhD:

All the interested external and internal researchers are invited to contact the equipment supervisor.
Moreover, we are currently searching for the equipment operator: a person willing to undergo the training provided by the producer, who will next be responsible for the equipment exploitation, the design of protocols of staining of particular organs and tissues, research material preparation, performance of the imaging, deconvolution and confocal image analysis.
Interested persons are asked to contact the equipment supervisor.
Congratulations to Sylwia Dąbrowska!
Sylwia Dąbrowska, MD PhD from the Department of Restorative Neurobiology MMRI PAS was ranked 3rd in the 13th Innovator of Mazovia competition in the category of
Innovative Scientist for the paper ‘The analysis of the immunomodulatory properties of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and their extracellular vesicles’.
Our warm congratulations!
The idea behind the competition organised by the Self-government of Masovia Province is to support and promote pro-innovation attitudes and to build the awareness of scientific and business circles of the role of innovation in economic development of the region and acquisition of new technologies-based competences. The competition also aims at establishing and promoting the collaboration between science business and the Self-government of Masovia Province.
This year’s edition was considered as unique by the organisers with regard to the number of applications submitted: a total of 105 researcher and companies applied in the call.
The final meeting was held on 3 November 2021 at the seat of the Marshal's Office of Masovian Province in Warsaw and the awards were handed out by Vice Marshal, Wiesław Raboszuk. The film coverage of the gala can be seen on the competition website: www.innowatormazowsza2021.pl
"Neuropathology 2023" Conference
On behalf of the Association of Polish Neuropathologists we would like to invite you to the annual
“Neuropathology 2023” Conference
which will be held under the patronage of MMRI PAS in the conference room of our Institute
on the 17-22th of November 2023.
The meeting will be of an interdisciplinary nature and will present the latest scientific / research / experimental and clinical achievements in the field of interest to a wide range of scientists, practitioners and students.
The presentations will include: ‘Neuropathology of vascular brain diseases, neuroinflammationas and neurodegeneration, Neurooncology, Haematology, ‘New WHO classification of CNS tumors.’, ‘Neuropathological – neuroradiological correlations’, ‘Neurotraumatology’ , Neuroscience, Neurotoxicology, Brain banking, Artifical Intelligence
Short oral and poster presentations are also planned. Presentations in English are possible.
The deadline for submitting abstracts and posters is November 3, 2023 via the form on the conference website: www.neuropath.pl
Regsitration link: HERE
Abstracts of the presented papers will be published in the Folia Neuropathologica journal.
Congratulations to Michalina Wężyk!
Only two research teams from Poland, including MMRI team, appeared on the list of award winners in JPco-fuND2 Call 2020 organised by the largest global research groupu: JPND EU Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research. The call for research projects focused on the issues related to neurodegenerative disorders detection: Linking pre-diagnosis disturbances of physiological Systems to Neurodegenerative Disease. 170international applications were submitted and 14 projects obtained the funds totalling € 15,5 million.
The successful project of Polish Team - coordinated by Michalina Wężyk, MD PhD from the Clinical and Research Department of Neurodegenerative diseases CNS of our Institute - is PreSSAD: Presymptomatic synaptic disorders in Alzheimer’s Disease. The initiative will be implemented in partnership with France, the Netherlands, Sweden and Hungary.
Our heartfelt congratulations!
International Symposium
On behalf of the Organizing Committee we would like to invite you to our conference: the 15th International Symposium “Molecular basis of pathology and therapy in neurological disorders”, that will take place on 20 – 22 October 2022.
Due to uncertain Covid-19 epidemic situation, the conference organised by Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences will have a virtual character.
