The scientific conference and workshop session will be held online on February 28th and March 1st.

This event is organized for the fifth time on the occasion of the World Rare Disease Day. This year, our Institute joined the group of co-organizers: the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics Polish Academy of Sciences, the EB Polska Foundation, the Institute of Mother and Child and the Polish Biochemical Society.

The current research program of the Department of Stem Cell Bioengineering:
Research conducted at the Department of Stem Cell Bioengineering concerns the development and pathology of the CNS and the use of stem cells for modeling diseases and CNS therapy.

The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:

  • participation in basic, preclinical and translational research in the field of stem cells and brain organoids
  • study of molecular mechanisms of development and pathology of the central nervous system using human induced pluripotent stem cells
  • development of life imaging methods to trace development of 3D cellular structure
  • modelling with brain organoids of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental

Description of job position activities:

  • planning and conducting research related to the use of stem cells in modeling in vitro of CNS disorders
  • optimization of stem cell culture conditions (use of three-dimensional scaffolds, different oxygen concentrations) in order to standardize cells
  • performing the necessary biochemical, molecular and electrophysiological tests, introducing new research technologies
  • derivation of reporter cell lines using gene editing technology
  • preparing reports on conducted research and elaboration of results
  • active participation in the implementation of research projects, following the requirements of the financing institution
  • preparing conference announcements and active participation in Polish and foreign conferences
  • activity preparing world recognized publications
  • obtaining external funding for research projects: writing individual grant projects and in consortia
  • active participation in the scientific and educational life (providing support for trainees) of the Department and the Institute
  • activity for the dissemination of science

Requirements for the position of assistant:

  • having a master's degree (or equivalent) in the field of medical, biological or related sciences
  • experience in laboratory work in the field of induced pluripotent stem cells culture
  • experience in derivation and culture of neural stem cell population and brain organoids
  • experience in the field of molecular biology methods (DNA, RNA, RTqPCR, NGS isolation) and cell biology (ELISA)
  • experience in immunohistochemical techniques and fluorescence microscopy imaging
  • having at least 2 scientific publications in scientific journals from the JCR list
  • documented active participation in conferences and scientific internships
  • independence and good organization of work
  • creativity, ability to work individually and in a team
  • fluency in English
  • indication Mossakowski Medical Research Institute Polish Academy of Sciences as a first place of employment

Additional requirements (desirable):

  • experience in somatic cells reprograming (fibroblasts) and development of induced pluripotent stem cell clonal cultures
  • experience in derivation of reporter cell lines
  • knowledge of modern omics research techniques (ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, scRNAseq) and genome editing methods
  • ability to analyze data and knowledge of statistical methods used in scientific research, ability to use software for statistical data analysis (e.g., GraphPad Prism, SPSS, R, Statistica)

The current research program of the Behavior and Metabolism Research Laboratory.

The Laboratory focuses on investigating schizophrenia-like behaviors in spontaneously hypertensive rats, SHR.
The behavioral experiments aim to validate these rats as an animal model of schizophrenia. A key aspect of the ongoing research projects is the analysis of ultrasonic vocalizations in rats and mice as an objective indicator of emotional states and social functioning. The research is carried out in collaboration with national and international scientific institutions, utilizing advanced behavioral testing methods as well as bioinformatic approaches to data analysis. The Laboratory is also involved in several scientific cooperation efforts in which various behavioral methods are used.

 

The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:

  • Behavioral studies aimed at validating the SHR strain as an animal model of schizophrenia.
  • Research on the characteristics and structure of ultrasonic vocalizations in rats.

 

Description of job position activities:

  • Conducting scientific research on animals.
  • Introducing new research technologies to enhance the quality of scientific investigations.
  • Actively publishing research findings.
  • Preparing research proposals to secure funding.
  • Actively participating in the Laboratory's scientific seminars.
  • Representing the Laboratory at national and international scientific conferences.

 

Requirements for the position of assistant:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in the field of medical, biological or related sciences.
  • Ability to design, organize, and conduct scientific research and formulate research hypotheses.
  • Knowledge of behavioral research techniques.
  • Experience in working with animals.
  • Independence and good work organization.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Indicating the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences as a first place of employment.

 

Additional requirements (preferred):

  • Scientific publication record in the field of behavioral research.
  • Familiarity in techniques of animal vocalizations analysis.
