The current research program of the Laboratory of NeuroRepair Department:
- evaluation of the selected mechanisms of neural cells interactions in development of the central nervous system
- investigation of the role of epigenetic regulators in the selected pathophysiological conditions of the CNS
- searching for the novel neurorestorative strategies (in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models)

- interpretation of the role the process of histone acetylation/deacetylation plays in stimulating the endogenous neurogenesis and anti-inflammatory response in rat model of perinatal asphyxia
Description of job position activities:
- to conduct research projects on the biology of neonatal neural cells and their therapeutic potential in the selected CNS disorders (culturing in vitro primary cells and cell lines, performing in vivo models)
- biological analyses with the advanced biochemical and molecular techniques
- to introduce new methods to improve the quality of scientific research
- preparing reports on conducted research
- obtaining external funding for research projects
- preliminary elaboration of results and participation in the preparation of conference announcements and manuscripts, participation in seminars, courses, and training
- representing the Institute at scientific conferences
Requirements:
- having a master's degree (or equivalent) in the field of medical, biological or related sciences
- experience in the research work on neural cells, documented by publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference abstracts
- experience (minimum 5 years) in laboratory work (cell cultures, molecular biology) and small animal surgery (valid permission for work with laboratory animals is necessary)
- authorship/co-authorship of scientific publications in the field of neurobiology
- documented experience in application for funds for research work (grant applications)
- teamwork skills
- creativity, openness to new challenges, and very good organization of laboratory work

We are recruiting for the OPUS project No. 2020/37/B/NZ5/02424 entitled „MicroRNAome maturation control and its application in selective targeting of cancer stem cells” funded by the National Science Centre and carried out at the Department of Neurooncology at the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences (MMRI PAS). Project Description:
Practical analysis and visualization of cancer biology data are often compromised by its inherent complexity and the significant demands of the required computer programming skills. To address these barriers, we propose the creation of a user-friendly web platform designed to streamline the integration and visualization of diverse omics data.
The primary objective is to develop a platform that enhances the distribution and sharing of scientific findings derived from advanced technologies, including next-generation sequencing and mass spectrometry. This platform will promote open science by providing interactive and easily accessible data to a broad scientific community.
Responsibilities of the IT Fellow / Intern:
1. Collaboration in the design and development of biostatistical tools:
- Assist in designing and developing software to analyze and visualize complex biological datasets
- Integrate visualization tools that are compatible and efficient across various web browsers
- Maintain active engagement in the research project through mandatory participation in regular project team meetings, aimed at:
- discussing research progress,
- identifying and solving ongoing research issues,
- jointly planning further analytical stages and research strategies.
2. Data analysis and visualization:
- Actively participate in analyzing large-scale biological datasets to support cancer research objectives
- Develop a seamless, intuitive graphical interface that allows researchers to explore, navigate, and download data, promoting open data practices
3. User interface and functionality improvements:
- Design a user-friendly graphical interface for easy dataset navigation and interaction
- Implement search and filtering functionalities that utilize experimental metadata
- Develop and integrate sophisticated visualization tools to present omics data clearly and effectively
- Ensure the platform supports common data visualization and graphing functions
4. Documentation and training:
Collaborate in the creation of comprehensive documentation and training materials to assist users in effectively navigating the new platform.
5. Ongoing Project Engagement:
Maintain active engagement in the research project through mandatory participation in regular project team meetings, aimed at:
- discussing research progress,
- identifying and solving ongoing scientific challenges,
- jointly planning the following stages of data analysis and research strategy.

- isolation of RNA, proteins, and extracellular vesicles from cell samples
- preparation of material for downstream omics analyses
3. Molecular Techniques:
- performing standard molecular analyses such as qPCR, Western Blotting, and immunoprecipitation
- conducting cell transfections and analyzing transfection outcomes
4. Data Analysis:
- assisting with the analysis of omics experiment results (e.g., RNA sequencing, mass spectrometry)
- validating obtained findings in the laboratory

- Within the limits and on the terms set out in the GDPR, you have the right to request access to your personal data, rectification, deletion or limitation of processing, as well as the right to submit a declaration of withdrawal of consent to the processing of personal data at any time. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of the processing which was carried out on the basis of consent before its withdrawal, as well as the processing of data processed by the administrator on the basis of other provisions.
