Brief project description: The MAVERIC project aims to overcome resistance to lung cancer treatment by developing new small molecules that reprogramme tumour-associated macrophages, transforming them from defenders of the tumour into its destroyers. To bypass unreliable animal models and accelerate clinical trials, the effectiveness of the therapy will be tested on innovative 3D models of human tumours, which replicate the patient’s real-world environment with the support of artificial intelligence. This work is being carried out by a specialised consortium comprising a biotechnology company, a technology start-up and a medical research institute, opening a new chapter in the effective fight against lung cancer.
